Critical components that affect the safe operation of a hoist or crane, as specified (listed) by the manufacturer, shall be inspected in accordance with the inspection criteria or procedures indicated by the manufacturer. If such a list is not available, or if there is any doubt as to whether a component is safety-related, a Professional Engineer shall make a list of critical components and provide inspection criteria and procedures for each critical component.

At Nortech, we can support in conducting Annual and/or Periodic inspections which will be performed by a crane inspector with significant experience. Often our technicians will complete a large crane inspection by a team having combined equivalent qualifications under the supervision of a crane inspector or Professional Engineer. Inspection intervals referenced in the code are determined by service classes, Light service- A/B (Annually), Heavy service C/D (Semi-annually), Severe service E/F (Quarterly), special service (as recommended by a Professional Engineer or crane manufacturer), or a combination. Out of service cranes should be inspected prior to being put back into service, and our team is adept at supporting these inspections.

As crane owners, our customers should complete inspection of the crane and those inspections should be performed at intervals as defined in CLAUSE 4.4.5.1 of CSA B167-96 code (in Alberta as per OH&S). Our technicians can report on any deficiencies found during their examination, and with our engineer’s guidance can make decisions on whether they will affect the safe operation of the crane. Our inspection reports and certifications support our customers to maintain a preventative maintenance program based on the specification and operating requirements of the crane. Dated and signed records of our inspections are readily available through our NorTrack Inspection portal.
